Training Strategy

There is no perfect model when developing a training strategy to meet the ICAO langauge proficiency requirements due to take effect in 2008. Any plan will depend on resources, time, financial budgets, numbers of people involved, their present level of English, etc.

However, what is clear is that any strategy needs to be clearly thought through and be integrated. Each part of the training process needs to complement the other parts. Different people will also require different programmes.

The diagram below may serve as a useful model in developing a suitable training strategy. This model includes 4 components:

  • Part-time courses delivered in the home country (either "in-house" or through partnership with a reputable local training provider - for example the British Council
  • E-learning courses
  • Short, intensive courses in the UK
  • The Test of English for Aviation (T.E.A.)
