As part of an integrated training solution (see here for more information), Mayflower College has developed a series of 3 self-study programmes for air traffic controllers and pilots. Each programme consists of 50 one-hour lessons which are sent by email each week.

Programme III (50 hours) ICAO 4 ICAO 4+ / 5

The pilot / ATCO receives a personalised email each week containing a series of exercises designed to increase vocabulary. The areas of vocabulary studied are considered to be important for the needs of aviation personnel (see ICAO document 9835 AN/453). Examples are:

Weather Geography Illness / Disease People's Appearance Transport
Animals / birds Work Numbers / Time Feelings Crime
Countries / nationalities Abbreviations Injuries Shapes / Colours Aircraft

The weekly emails also include interesting / amusing stories from the British newspapers of that week.
