Where are we going in October?
Buckland
Abbey is a medieval (13th Century) monastery which was later converted into a
Tudor home. It was the home of Sir Francis Drake (the first Englishman to
circumnavigate the globe) from 1582 - 1596. On 2 October there is a special
Elizabethan Day with people in costume, and dancing, singing and craft stalls.
After lunch we will visit Dartmoor National Park, which is a large area of
countryside and one of the most beautiful places in Britain.
Today we will go to Plymouth Theatre Royal and see the acclaimed production of Hamlet before it starts its national tour.
The
Lost Gardens of Heligan are amazing! A wonderful magical place full of
surprises, the garden has been the subject of a four part TV programme and a
best selling book.
Truro dates back to the 12th century and has a wealth of history, which is reflected in the beautiful architecture of its buildings. Today, it’s a bustling, energetic city with modern and traditional shops. There is a farmers market in Lemon Street where you can look at and buy local produce.
Castle
Drogo is a magnificent granite castle built high above some woods. It was built
in the early part of the twentieth century for a rich tea importer. There are
many interesting parts of the castle which you can visit and we will also have a
tour of the garden.
Castle Drogo is owned by the National Trust.
St
